Public Inquiry14/1/02 - Northumberland is the latest county to hold its own public inquiry into FMD and its handling. The Prime Minister, however, continues to reject the idea of a national public inquiry. The EU is making plans for an investigation into FMD and other animal diseases, including controls on meat imports from countries where FMD is prevalent. The committee will also make proposals on vaccination against FMD .

FMD Judicial Review date set.The pressure for a public inquiry into the FMD outbreak continues. The date has been set for the judicial review campaigned for by the Western Morning News, Western Mail and and Farmers Weekly. The date set is from the 19th - 22nd February 2002. Pressure to re-open livestock markets also continues.

Foot and Mouth Disease24/12/01.The Farmers Weekly (and others) are campaigning to re-open livestock markets. These give a better indication of price trends and fairer valuation of livestock. This campaign is coupled with concern over the 20 day movement ruling and its current implementation.
